data-end=\"345\">As the nation celebrates <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalindia.gov.in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">11 years of the Digital India program<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has outlined an ambitious roadmap focused on strengthening indigenous technology, expanding digital infrastructure, and positioning India as a global technology powerhouse.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"yos9es\" data-start=\"654\" data-end=\"687\">Digital India Enters a New Era<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"856\">What began in 2015 as a mission to improve internet connectivity and digital governance has evolved into one of the world&#8217;s largest digital transformation initiatives.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"856\">Today, Digital India powers everything from online government services and digital payments to financial inclusion, cloud infrastructure, and innovation across industries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"856\">According to MeitY, the next phase will focus on building technologies that are designed, developed, and manufactured in India while supporting the country&#8217;s long-term <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/niti.gov.in\/sites\/default\/files\/2026-04\/DPI-2047-for-Viksit-Bharat-A-Strategic-Roadmap-to-Enable-Non-linear-Inclusive-Socio-economic-Growth.pdf\"><strong data-start=\"1199\" data-end=\"1221\">Viksit Bharat 2047<\/strong><\/a><\/span> vision.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"z64m9u\" data-start=\"1231\" data-end=\"1288\">AI Becomes the Centrepiece of India&#8217;s Digital Strategy<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1290\" data-end=\"1386\">Artificial Intelligence will play a central role in India&#8217;s next decade of technological growth.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1290\" data-end=\"1386\">Under the <strong data-start=\"1398\" data-end=\"1417\">IndiaAI Mission<\/strong>, the government has allocated more than <strong data-start=\"1458\" data-end=\"1475\">\u20b910,000 crore<\/strong> to build AI computing infrastructure, making high-performance computing affordable for startups, researchers, educational institutions, and enterprises.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1290\" data-end=\"1386\">The initiative aims to support the development of <strong data-start=\"1680\" data-end=\"1718\">15 indigenous AI foundation models<\/strong>, reducing dependence on foreign AI platforms while encouraging homegrown innovation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1290\" data-end=\"1386\">Affordable AI compute resources are expected to accelerate research, enterprise adoption, and AI-powered solutions across healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, education, and governance.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1al1p1w\" data-start=\"1995\" data-end=\"2040\">Semiconductor Manufacturing Gains Momentum<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2042\" data-end=\"2101\">India is also rapidly building its semiconductor ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2042\" data-end=\"2101\">The government has already approved <strong data-start=\"2139\" data-end=\"2196\">12 semiconductor projects worth over \u20b91.66 lakh crore<\/strong> under the <strong data-start=\"2207\" data-end=\"2234\">Semicon India Program<\/strong>, with additional investments expected under the upcoming <strong data-start=\"2292\" data-end=\"2321\">Semiconductor Mission 2.0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2042\" data-end=\"2101\">New chip manufacturing and packaging facilities, including the CG Semi plant in Gujarat, are expected to strengthen India&#8217;s domestic supply chain while reducing reliance on imports.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2042\" data-end=\"2101\">As global demand for AI infrastructure continues to rise, semiconductor manufacturing is becoming a strategic priority for economic growth and national security.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1er7ba\" data-start=\"2670\" data-end=\"2728\">Quantum Computing and Supercomputing Receive Major Push<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2730\" data-end=\"2805\">Alongside AI and chips, India is investing heavily in quantum technologies.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2730\" data-end=\"2805\">The <strong data-start=\"2811\" data-end=\"2839\">National Quantum Mission<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2844\" data-end=\"2879\">National Supercomputing Mission<\/strong>, backed by investments exceeding <strong data-start=\"2913\" data-end=\"2929\">\u20b96,000 crore<\/strong>, aim to build next-generation computing capabilities that can support scientific research, cybersecurity, defense, healthcare, and advanced industrial applications.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2730\" data-end=\"2805\">These initiatives are designed to ensure India remains competitive as countries worldwide race to develop breakthrough computing technologies.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"11l0a2u\" data-start=\"3240\" data-end=\"3271\">Digital India by the Numbers<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3273\" data-end=\"3357\">The Digital India program has already transformed the country&#8217;s digital landscape.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3273\" data-end=\"3357\">Some key achievements include:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3391\" data-end=\"3998\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1c6zy5p\" data-start=\"3391\" data-end=\"3437\">More than <strong data-start=\"3403\" data-end=\"3437\">102 crore internet connections<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"rvhdy8\" data-start=\"3438\" data-end=\"3482\">Nearly <strong data-start=\"3447\" data-end=\"3482\">100 crore broadband subscribers<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"18uumkm\" data-start=\"3483\" data-end=\"3539\"><strong data-start=\"3485\" data-end=\"3539\">5G services available across almost every district<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1tos0gu\" data-start=\"3540\" data-end=\"3635\">Mobile data prices reduced from approximately <strong data-start=\"3588\" data-end=\"3635\">\u20b9270 per GB in 2014 to just \u20b98 to \u20b910 today<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1ybwffn\" data-start=\"3636\" data-end=\"3730\">UPI processing over <strong data-start=\"3658\" data-end=\"3694\">24,000 crore annual transactions<\/strong> worth more than <strong data-start=\"3711\" data-end=\"3730\">\u20b9314 lakh crore<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"oknwia\" data-start=\"3731\" data-end=\"3814\">India now accounts for nearly <strong data-start=\"3763\" data-end=\"3814\">half of all real-time digital payments globally<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"136mot0\" data-start=\"3815\" data-end=\"3903\">More than <strong data-start=\"3827\" data-end=\"3845\">\u20b951 lakh crore<\/strong> transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"2ci96h\" data-start=\"3904\" data-end=\"3998\"><strong data-start=\"3906\" data-end=\"3920\">DigiLocker<\/strong> hosting over <strong data-start=\"3934\" data-end=\"3965\">900 crore digital documents<\/strong> for more than <strong data-start=\"3980\" data-end=\"3998\">70 crore users<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4000\" data-end=\"4136\">These milestones demonstrate how Digital India has become a foundation for economic growth, financial inclusion, and digital governance.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"3ie5p1\" data-start=\"4138\" data-end=\"4179\">Building a Self-Reliant Digital Future<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4181\" data-end=\"4314\">India is also working to strengthen international technology partnerships while ensuring reliable access to advanced AI technologies.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4181\" data-end=\"4314\">Government officials have recently engaged with global partners to discuss long-term access to critical AI infrastructure, highlighting India&#8217;s commitment to balancing global collaboration with technological self-reliance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4181\" data-end=\"4314\">The next phase of Digital India will focus on developing secure, scalable, and trusted digital ecosystems built around AI, semiconductors, cybersecurity, quantum computing, and digital public infrastructure.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"13dcvnv\" data-start=\"4749\" data-end=\"4765\">Looking Ahead<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4767\" data-end=\"4918\">Digital India is no longer just a program focused on connectivity.
