PM Modi’s Sweden Visit Strengthens AI, Trade, Startup, and Technology Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a significant phase of his five-nation diplomatic tour with a high-level visit to Sweden, where India and Sweden announced major agreements focused on artificial intelligence, trade growth, startups, emerging technologies, and innovation.

The visit included participation in the European Round Table for Industry in Gothenburg on May 17, co-hosted by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The discussions highlighted India’s growing global role in AI, deep-tech manufacturing, digital infrastructure, semiconductors, renewable energy, and advanced research collaboration.


India-Sweden Relations Elevated to Strategic Partnership

One of the biggest outcomes of the visit was the elevation of India-Sweden ties to a Strategic Partnership.

Both countries adopted a Joint Statement and Joint Action Plan for 2026 – 2030 aimed at strengthening:
